Hot Air Balloon More Information

  • On top of the world at Mount Tamborine

Just before dawn, meet our team of pilots, who are all highly experienced, experts in their field & great guys; they have some amazing facts to share about Hot Air Ballooning. We’re happy to say too, our teams are a fun and highly trained crew, well-practiced in making this once in a lifetime experience, one that is both fun and memorable.

Make your way to our hot air balloon launch site just a short 14 km drive down the mountain, as the reliability of the balloons launching is at its best, in the valley, where the breeze is gentle and the surroundings give us the optimum opportunity for take-off.

Watching the hot air balloons take shape at the beginning of the morning, is always a moment of surprise and amazement, the size and majesty of the balloons as they are full of hot air, makes for an excellent photo opportunity too. Enjoy the sensation of gently taking off and seeing the other balloons inflate to their majestic height at sunrise, then whether it’s a one, two or three hot air balloon floatilla watch them rise above it all and see the entire region with 360 degree views.

Every day is different, look east to see the tips of the Gold Coast high-rise, with the Pacific Ocean sparkling in the far distance, or look ahead to see Lamington National Park then on a clear day, look north to see Brisbane city on the far horizon and of course as our pilots like to say, every passenger with Hot Air Balloon Scenic Rim has a window seat.

All inclusive with a Champagne Breakfast and Free Wine Tasting

As your time floating in the balloon is up, come down to earth and after landing there are Hot Air Balloon pack-up games and lots of laughs, then it’s a short drive to the Grand Homestead & Boutique Vineyard.  Our breakfast is a real highpoint of the morning, where you can relax in the historic surroundings with a glass of champagne to toast your morning.

A delightful cooked breakfast, pastries, fresh juices, eggs & bacon, cereals & fruit is all yours as you unwind in the serenity of the vineyard on the verandah of this picturesque grand Queenslander. Take the time to wander the gardens, there’s a creek too for platypus spotting and if you wish, try some free wine tasting next door too.

    Special Occasions and Mount Tamborine

Hot Air Balloon Scenic Rim has a range of balloon options, including a complimentary birthday cake if it’s that special someone’s birthday or perhaps you wish to choose one of our Hot Air Balloon Gift Vouchers and present it during your Mount Tamborine stay, so that you have a wonderful reason to return yet again to Mount Tamborine!

Our balloon tickets are 100% transferable and if for any reason ballooning can’t happen, we offer 100% refunds or book again any date that suits you, as only our balloon tickets are the most flexible and valid one year from purchase.

The ideal combination – Hot Air Ballooning & Mount Tamborine wineries

And as your time with Hot Air Balloon Scenic Rim, finishes mid-morning, ballooning is ideal to combine with so many other things to do in Mt Tamborine like a 4WD Rainforest tour or Winery tours or hiking or adventure tours. Or maybe you would prefer after ballooning, as you have plenty of time to relax and just lay back for a idle afternoon, wander the local Galleries, Craft, Gift and Antique shops or enjoy the Mount Tamborine wineries or a long lunch!

A short break on Mount Tamborine is always special, so next time, if you or someone you love, has always wanted to fly in a hot air balloon, book ahead and when it comes to your list of choosing Mount Tamborine things to do, come experience the silence and wonder of this very traditional form of flight. Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk More Information

  • Over 300 meters of structured bridge through the top of the rainforest canopy

The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is owned and operated by the Moore family. Prior to the opening of the Skywalk the family spent four years in research and planning and finally in March 2009 a world-class tourist attraction, suitable for all ages, and showcasing the natural beauty of the rainforest reached fruition.

The walk is easily accessed as it departs directly from the centre’s Eco Gallery. This information corridor contains extensive descriptions and photos of local flora and fauna, interpretive panels, butterfly displays, insect dioramas and a fresh-water aquarium. Also of interest are descriptions of the evolution of Tamborine Mountain and local Aboriginal culture.

Featuring rainforest bio-diversity, all the levels of the forest can be explored during the walk –  from the delicate ferns and dense vegetation of the rainforest floor alongside majestic strangler figs and ancient trees to rare orchids and the spectacular panorama in the higher canopies. While crossing the 300 meter, steel-structured bridge and the breath-taking 40 meter long “Skywalk Cantilever” soaring 35 meters above the forest floor, the highest canopies are revealed and add an element of excitement and a rare opportunity to be actually up in the highest parts of the forest.

The total walk takes about 50 minutes although a dedicated nature lover may take a whole lot longer.

Other interesting features to be seen on the walk include a pioneer’s hut with a collection of historical farming implements used by the early European settlers, and photos of original residents and life on the mountain.

The Butterfly Lookout is a great place to stop and relax in one of the sheltered rest-stops along the way.  Hundreds of butterfly-attracting vines and shrubs have been planted by the Moores to attract and maintain diverse types of butterflies especially the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly which is prevalent between September and April each year.

Visitors have the option of purchasing light refreshments and snacks from the Skywalk’s Birdwing Coffee Shop, or some beautiful gifts and souvenirs from the centre’s gift shop.

There is no pressure to pick up a knife though you are able to sit and watch if you like. The classes are held in a large comfortable colonial style house on 2 acres of landscaped gardens with magnificent views across the Scenic Rim.

Lunch is enjoyed on a beautifully laid table with linen and silver overlooking the view. After lunch enjoy a walk along the garden paths amongst the exotics or inspect the organic vegetable garden to see where your fresh herbs and vegetables came from.

Classes are held twice weekly and more by demand. We usually prepare and eat about 8 to 10 courses.

Richard Roper – Bralgah Metamorphosis

  • Bralgah Metamorphosis

    Bralgah Metamorphosis

Brolgas are most famous for their mating dance. In Queensland the breeding season is in November and December. A pair of brolgas spread their wings and leap and dance gracefully before mating. Brolgas stay with the same partner for life.

After mating, the female brolga lays 2 eggs in a nest. It is a one and a half metre platform of grass and reeds. Both parents share the task of sitting on the eggs, which hatch after about 30 days. The young stay with their parents for about a year.

    The Legend of the Brolga

An Aboriginal legend tells of a beautiful young woman who always danced instead of working. She was turned into a tall, slender bird. Her name was Bralgah. The complicated dance of the brolga is imitated by the Aborigines in some of their dances.

Visit Our
Website

Richard was born at Wentworth NSW Australia and grew up with three sisters on a property on the Darling River called Tara. He was taught to draw as a child by aboriginal children using layers of wet clay on the banks of the river. Drawing and painting became a lifelong interest as a way of expressing ideas, dreams and memories.

He won a scholarship to the University of Melbourne in 1970 where he completed undergraduate degrees in Psychology, Fine Arts and postgraduate degrees in the health sciences followed by more recent studies at the University of Ballarat including Visual Arts.

His employment includes lecturing for several years at the University of Melbourne, clinical work and research at the National Acoustic Laboratories, teaching at the Department of Otolaryngology, Royal Victorian Eye & Ear, Royal Children’s Hospital, and Ballarat Health Services. Richard established Australia’s first newborn hearing screening program in seven Victorian maternity wards in 1997, and set up several hearing clinics throughout Melbourne and rural Victoria.

Richard moved to Tamborine Mountain Queensland Australia with his family in 2008 and built an Art Gallery and his studio at 1 Bartle Road Mount Tamborine. His techniques and paintings with watercolour and ink, developed over forty years, are mainly influenced by his childhood experience with the First Australians and their history, belief systems and sophisticated culture that developed over 45,000 years.

You will cross the threshold into a replica limestone world complete with stalagmites, stalactites and water features. Adjust your eyes to the darkness in comfort while learning about glow-worms through an audio-visual presentation. Then, enter the second magical ‘glow-worm’ cave to witness thousands of glow worms illuminating the cave like the night sky.

Take in the phenomena as our guides engage and entertain with quirky information about these most charismatic of insects. A truly special experience – our caves are climate-controlled, convenient, ecofriendly and have easy disability access.

Tours are conducted daily between 10am – 4pm and are available to tour groups by arrangement.

Gaye Dell, a local author/artist, created greeting cards especially for Tamborine Mountain. She is inspired by the beauty and magic of our neighbourhood…

She has BA’s in Fine Arts and Education from Australia and a third one from the University of Florida combining her two passions, Art and Creative Writing. She has published 13 books for children and has written, illustrated and provided the graphic design for all of them.

In the days of yore, Gaye held the world’s fastest time for the 200 metres hurdles for over two years and represented Australia in both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. She is a proud owner of a silver medal for the 100m hurdles in 1974 in Christchurch.

She’s a little slower these days!

Gaye’s art and poetry are on folded cards and are supplied in a protective cello sleeve with quality white envelopes.

Large (A5-210 x 148) $6.50 – Small (C6-105 x 148) $5.00

You may also choose to remove the “Tamborine Mountain” greeting from the image, or contact Gaye to arrange a personal greeting.

Jo Morgan – Artist

  • Jo Morgan portrays the human form in acrylics, watercolour, pastels and coloured pencil. Her work is included in private collections Australia wide as well as England, Ireland Japan and New Zealand.

Jo Morgan’s representations of the human form and human relations have been influenced by her years in the advertising field. Whilst revering men and women her renditions often gently lampoon society’s perceptions of the ideal. Her female forms are rarely portrayed in a realistic setting, putting them beyond and sometimes above the ordinary. Jo often takes her inspiration from the images used to advertise.

“We are constantly bombarded with intense images telling stories far beyond the scope of the product they promote. Within these images I find glimpses of emotional intensity not at first obvious and often overlooked within the superficial context of the advertising medium. My ‘Intimate Glimpses’ series in acrylic is intended to highlight these frozen moments of the human condition, in particular the so-called ‘battle of the sexes'”.

“My art is about beauty but has its feet firmly planted in the soil of sceptical humour. Do we all look like this? No. Should we all look like this? Of course not. But there’s no denying we all have a fascination with beauty, we recognise it, and to some degree we all covet it.”

“I’ve always loved pencils, the feel and smell of them, the satisfaction of a perfectly sharpened point, so indulge myself by working often in colour pencil. It allows a delicacy and control achievable in very few mediums and suits the portrayal of the ethereal wonderfully well. Although I work in other mediums I always come back to this one for a treat. My exploration of the female form has resulted in several series. These include; ‘Botanical Beauties’ featuring flowers and nudes; the ‘Angel’ series, probably the most irreverent series portraying less than perfect angels; ‘Dreams’ series a study of sleep and the magic it performs; the ‘Water’ series; and the ‘Cocktail & Desserts’ series, pure fun.”

Born in Sydney in 1956 Jo completed the Commercial Art course at Randwick in 1972 and successfully pursued a career in advertising, working in several major art studios and agencies in Sydney. A move to beautiful Tamborine Mountain in 1985 prompted a change in direction into neon and illuminated displays. Her designs light up casinos and nightclubs throughout Queensland. This background in commercial design and years of rendering client’s dreams on paper have provided Jo with a solid grounding in the necessary skills to make the improbable very believable.

As well as running her magical Fairy shop called Flights of Fancy in her hometown Tamborine Mountain Jo now concentrates on fine art. Jo works from the home she shares with her husband in a studio overlooking a wonderful garden that provides endless inspiration.

“Art is something I have always had to do so I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to indulge my compulsion and my passion.”
