Bring along your vintage or classic car to the Show and get free entry! Once again, we have some great prizes to give away, thanks to our brilliant sponsors – Albert River Wines, Georges Paragon, the Bavarian Grill Haus, Belvedere Restaurant and the Fox and Hounds. This year’s car display is looking to be bigger and better than ever before, thanks to the Queensland Vintage Vehicle Association, and for the Mountain history buffs, we have a very special treat! As part of our opening ceremony, we have a 1903 5hp Oldsmobile transporting two of the Mountain’s oldest residents, Allan Rosser and Raymond Curtis, to the stage. An Oldsmobile similar to this was the first car to come up the mountain in 1907. The ascent was made up the old Knoll Road. Apparently, it made the descent with a log tied to the back as extra brake power! What a trip that would have been! It was about another 7 years before another attempt was made, this time by a Model T Ford coming up the mountain on the Coomera side.
One of Australia’s best known and loved Jazz bands, Galapagos Duck, will play at the 2017 Medieval Showtime on Tamborine Mountain.
The band was formed in the late 60’s when the members were engaged for the winter season at the ‘Kosciusko Chalet’ in New South Wales. The band stayed together on their return to Sydney, becoming the House Band at Circular Key’s jazz night club, ‘The Basement’. The line-up may have changed, but the ‘Duck’ remains true to its roots as Australia’s premier jazz band.
Galapagos Duck will be on stage at 4:30 pm, just in time to enjoy a cooling ale from the Bar and relax before our spectacular fireworks display. Watch out for our fabulous fire jugglers and stiltwalking angels as evening falls, too. These are not to be missed and will be on after our magical lantern parade. Make sure that the children have an opportunity to make a lantern with the wonderful Kirsten Cash during the day, so that they can take part in the parade!
These are just a small sample of the fantastic events we have in store for you at the 2017 Medieval Showtime on Tamborine Mountain. Come along and watch jousting exhibitions and archery, blacksmithing, stiltwalkers and falconry, vintage machinery and cars, reptiles and animals, games, craft and more.
